Job Summary

Conduct daily classroom routines and implement data-driven lesson plans utilizing the Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline techniques. Monitor student arrival and departure while maintaining staff-student ratios and supervising children's social, emotional, and physical development. Adhere to state child care licensing regulations, district policies, and safety requirements, including cleaning protocols and incident reporting. Assist Pre-K instructional teams in guiding young children through activities promoting Kindergarten preparedness. Maintain up-to-date Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED-BL certification and attend assigned professional development. Work part-time for 10 months at $15.00/hr, with up to 5.5 hours daily during the Kansas City Public Schools academic year.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Desire and ability to work with children ages three and four years old and understand the developmental needs of this age group
  • Must pass the pre-employment investigation, Criminal/Child Abuse background Check and submission of an initial physical and TB screening
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift objects/children of at least forty pounds
  • Ability to use stairs
  • Ability to move quickly from one space to another
  • Ability to spend extended time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Mono and color vision

Desired Qualifications

  • Possess a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and/or a two or four year undergraduate degree or willing to enroll in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire
  • Qualifying score on the ParaPro Assessment or Sixty (60) college hours with a grade point average of at least 2.5. Twenty-four (24) of the sixty (60) hours must be in early childhood, youth development or child/family related courses
  • Missouri state substitute teacher certification
  • Experience working with children and families in an urban setting
