Head Start Family Advocate - North Jeff

Job Summary

Conduct home visits every two months to 28 families, providing health and family service referrals while acting as an advocate to help identify needs and develop goals. Perform comprehensive health intakes, sensory screenings, and track follow-up for assigned children; recruit and enroll families; and facilitate monthly Parent Committee meetings. Maintain complete documentation of agency forms, computer databases, and statistical data for reporting. Requires a valid driver's license, independent transportation, and a background clearance from the NYS Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Includes 32.5 hours per week with academic schedule, paid school vacations, and flexible benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Human Services or related field
  • Family Development Credential (FDC) or other specified training within two years of hire
  • One year of experience in the human service field
  • Basic personal computer skills that include the ability to send and receive email messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform basic word processing, and/or data entry
  • Knowledge of child and family development
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality or program and agency related information
  • Strong time management, planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to cooperate with all Head Start staff to provide quality programming for children and families
  • Independent transportation to perform job duties
  • Valid driver's license
  • Satisfactory physical exam including TB test
  • Policy Council approval
  • Receipt of clearance form the NYS Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment
  • NYS Office of Children and Family Services clearance
  • NYS Division of the Criminal Justice Services clearance
  • Affidavit stating that he/she has not been indicated with a child abuse or neglect case within the past year
