Job Summary
Calico is seeking a Head of Research to lead the early discovery research group focused on aging and aging-related diseases. Responsibilities include managing Principal Investigators, leading independent research efforts, providing scientific direction for translational projects, recruiting talent, and contributing to significant research initiatives. Candidates must have a doctoral degree and at least 15 years of relevant experience, along with strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills, and a proven track record in biomedical research.
Required Qualifications
- MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent degrees in molecular and cellular biology, immunology, neurobiology, structural biology, or related fields
- 15 or more years of postdoctoral and/or industry experience in drug development and/or basic biomedical research, especially in aging or aging-related diseases
- Proven leadership in academia or industry
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
- Success in managing and mentoring other scientists and research programs
- Strong record of creative scientific achievements as evidenced by impactful publications, patents, and national or international recognition
- Technical expertise in technologies related to basic or translational biomedical research
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in translational drug development
- Experience in moving projects from early discovery research to translational drug development
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work onsite five days a week, except for conferences or off-site work-related meetings
