Job Summary
Head Properties for the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion within The Music Center’s TMC Ops Production team, overseeing the Property Department across full productions, load-ins, rehearsals, runs, and load-outs; supervises prop crew and coordinates with designers, visiting crews, and management; manages prop design/maintenance, inventory, payroll processing, safety, and compliance with I.A.T.S.E. Local 33; requires five+ years as Head Prop or Assistant Head Prop in legitimate theater, proficiency with CAD/prints, strong craft skills, and California Firearms Permit eligibility; union membership and forklift/motorized-cart license provided by the company; full-time position with an hourly rate of $54.45.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five years experience as Head Prop person or Assistant Head Prop person in legitimate theater productions or legitimate theatrical venue
- Strong technical knowledge and experience with building, repairing, and maintaining props for theatrical productions
- Craft skills in woodworking, metalworking, sewing, furniture finishing, upholstery, electronics, plastics, casting, and molding
- Experience installing, repairing, maintaining floors (carpet/wood/tile/manufactured/sprung/marley)
- Attention to detail, aesthetic consideration in prop design and production
- Experience inventorying, tracking, purchasing, preparing, packing, and unpacking props
- Experience setting a pit orchestra and familiarity with instrumentalists
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to read, evaluate, and implement designs from Cad drawings and prints
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and with varied personalities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel
- Proven ability coordinating multiple parts of a production, establishing priorities, and meeting timelines
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and maintain productivity
- Must be eligible to qualify for a California Entertainment Firearms Permit
- Membership in I.A.T.S.E. Local 33 (required upon employment)
- License in forklift and motorized cart operation (training provided by company)
- Hourly Pay Rate: $54.45
