Head of Refractive Laser Lifecycle Engineering

Job Summary
Head of Lifecycle Engineering (REF) leads the globally integrated Lifecycle Engineering function for ZEISS Refractive Lasers, accountable for product sustainability, regulatory compliance and operating-model excellence across Germany and India. Owns end-to-end lifecycle ownership for released refractive products (post Gate 5), drives obsolescence and supplier-change strategies, ensures software maintenance and cybersecurity patching, and steers the global sustaining project portfolio. Builds a scalable Germany–India lifecycle engineering operating model, oversees offshoring scope, and scales a multidisciplinary team in Bangalore while institutionalizing knowledge transfer, KPI-driven performance, and cross-site collaboration. Requires 12+ years in lifecycle engineering/R&D or systems engineering in MedTech, a Master’s degree in engineering or related field (PhD preferred), strong leadership across cultures, and deep experience with lifecycle topics and regulatory standards (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, MDR, FDA). Willingness to work in Germany for onboarding and travel globally.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field (PhD preferred)
- 12+ years in lifecycle engineering, R&D or systems engineering in MedTech
- Proven track record in offshoring engineering activities to India, including operating model design and execution
- Demonstrated leadership experience in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural environments
- Strong hands-on experience in lifecycle topics such as obsolescence, CAPA, supplier changes, and software maintenance
- Deep understanding of cybersecurity lifecycle requirements
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Languages & Mobility Willingness to work in Germany for extended onboarding phase and travel globally
