Job Summary
The Head of Indigenous Relations oversees the advancement and maintenance of respectful, constructive relationships with Indigenous Nations to support project development and operations. This role involves strategic advice on Indigenous partnerships, engagement, and negotiations while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will direct the company-wide Indigenous strategy, manage complex community relations, and lead consultation programs that meet regulatory standards. Responsibilities include negotiating agreements, advising senior leadership, managing budgets, and representing Northland Power in industry forums.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, History, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline
- 8+ years of experience leading Indigenous engagement, consultation, and negotiations, with a demonstrated record of building trusted relationships
- 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, and/or large-scale project development
Desired Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in dispute resolution, alternative dispute resolution, and conflict management
- Experience developing or supporting Social Impact Assessments for Equator Principles Category A projects
- Working knowledge of Indigenous financing mechanisms, including loan guarantee programs and related funding structures
