Job Summary
Head of Hardware Engineering at Hitachi Rail Singapore leads the hardware engineering function for railway signalling projects, acting as the technical authority for signalling hardware and building a high-performing team to deliver safe, compliant, high-quality designs on time and within budget. The role involves end-to-end hardware engineering lifecycle ownership, translating customer requirements into conceptual designs, preparing interface schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, test artefacts, and interface control documents; ensuring RAMS targets; driving safety assurance activities; delivering technical proposals and providing cross-functional collaboration with systems engineering, software, verification & validation, manufacturing, and project management. The candidate will manage and develop the hardware engineering team, apply engineering processes and standards (EN 50126/50128/50129, SIL), and contribute to bids, proposals, and customer engagements, with travel across Asia accessibility (e.g., Malaysia). The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic engineering and extensive experience in hardware design for safety-critical railway systems, with proficiency in CAD tools and a strong track record of leadership and safety-focused design.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or related Engineering discipline
- 15+ years working experience in hardware engineering for railway signalling or other safety‐critical systems
- Experience in Electrical circuit design, signalling design or hardware application design
- Experience with drafting tools such as Auto CAD, MicroStation and SolidWorks
- Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of safety‐critical design principles and lifecycle standards (e.g. EN 5012x, SIL)
- Excellent technical judgement and ability to balance safety, performance, cost, and schedule
- Good interpersonal skills, writing and verbal skills, people supervision skills
- Ability to work within an international environment with different time zones
- Ability to travel and contribute to delivery of CBTC projects in Asia (e.g., Malaysia)
