Job Summary
Head of Estimating at Mears Group (Homebased – Remote, with UK travel) leads the commercial estimating and tendering function, shaping pricing, risk and mobilisation across major contracts. Responsible for developing robust bids across repairs & maintenance, government housing and decarbonisation; shapes commercial strategy, builds cost models from first principles, drives value engineering, and delivers senior commercial analysis. Partners with Business Development, Operations and Legal to inform bid decisions, governs tender submissions, and guides the Estimating Team to high performance. Requires extensive social housing estimating experience and leadership in end-to-end tender lifecycle, with strong stakeholder engagement and ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines. 40 hours per week, full-time, UK-based with travel; entitlement to work in the UK and compliance checks apply.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in social housing estimating with expert knowledge of NHF Schedule of Rates.
- Proven ability to develop pricing strategies and deliver value engineering solutions.
- Strong track record in post-tender negotiations and contract award processes.
- End-to-end tender lifecycle experience, from pricing to mobilisation.
- Strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract.
- Experience presenting commercial proposals at senior leadership level.
- Ability to manage multiple bids under demanding deadlines.
- Demonstrable leadership experience in building high-performing teams.
