Job Summary
Head of Engineering, POS Application Platform at Moniepoint leads the platform-level engineering layer beneath all POS products, defining technical strategy and architecture for the POS Application Platform. This role governs developer experience, platform reliability, foundational frameworks, and adoption across embedded POS engineers, while steering observability, onboarding of new device types, and collaboration with OEM partners. The role involves hands-on coding (40-60%), building and scaling the platform team, translating platform decisions into business impact, establishing engineering processes, tooling standards, and CI/CD pipelines, and aligning with Product and Business leadership across markets. Key technologies include Android (Kotlin/Java), EMV/POS standards, Java/Spring Boot, Docker/Kubernetes, PostgreSQL/DynamoDB/Elasticsearch, and AWS microservices. The candidate should have a decade of software engineering experience with several years in leadership, a fintech/regulatory background, and a track record of scaling platform engineering for multiple device types and OEM integrations.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years hands-on software engineering experience
- 6+ years leading engineering teams
- Direct, hands-on experience building software for POS terminals (embedded device applications)
- Strong working knowledge of EMV standards and PCI DSS / P2PE
- Android engineering expertise in Kotlin and Java
- Experience building internal engineering platforms, libraries, tooling, or foundational frameworks
- Experience governing architecture across multiple POS device types and OEM integrations
- 40-60% hands-on coding in current or most recent role
- Experience in scale and governance of platform engineering functions
- Experience at a fintech/regulated environment
- Familiarity with terminal management systems and device observability tooling (a strong plus)
- Backend experience in Java or Spring Boot (a strong plus)
- Experience working with OEM vendors on hardware specification/integration (bonus)
- Exposure to C or C++ (a plus)
- Experience at Series A/B startups (preferred)
