Job Summary
Head of Engineering to lead the entire engineering organization for a smart seating company building sensor-driven medical cushions. Key duties include guiding delivery, culture, and accountability for the engineering team; serving as the bridge between leadership and the development team to communicate strategy and technical constraints; actively drafting and prosecuting patents with the CEO and patent attorneys; hiring and guiding the engineer responsible for the cloud connectivity and data platform; collaborating with operations to align engineering with high-mix, short lead-time manufacturing; keeping Sales & Marketing informed of timing and trade-offs; and partnering with Finance on key programs. Leadership expectations include adapting team culture at scale, building customer-obsessed engineers, breaking down silos, holding people accountable, making principled build-vs-buy decisions, and delivering product-driven value.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years engineering experience
- 3–5+ years leading engineering teams at a startup or growth-stage company
- Hands-on background in electromechanical systems, embedded firmware, and connected hardware
- Experience taking a hardware product and building the cloud connectivity and data platform around it
- Proven track record of shipping complex hardware/software products on time and to spec
