Job Summary
Develop and execute underwriting strategy for the commercial marine portfolio, establishing guidelines, pricing, and risk selection standards while evaluating large, complex risks. Oversee portfolio performance metrics including premium growth, retention, and loss ratios, partnering with actuarial and claims teams to optimize results. Lead a high-performing underwriting team through mentorship, coaching, and succession planning while building strategic relationships with retail and wholesale brokers nationwide. Monitor loss trends and emerging exposures to drive profitable growth across the organization. This executive role requires 10+ years of commercial marine underwriting experience and 5+ years in leadership, with a focus on marinas, yacht clubs, and commercial fishing vessels.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of commercial marine and/or ocean marine underwriting experience
- 5+ years of underwriting leadership or management experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Must live in the United States
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without requirement of employment sponsorship/visa
- Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs
- Must have close, distance, color, peripheral, focus, and depth perception vision

- Demonstrated success managing profitable marine insurance portfolios
- Strong broker and distribution relationships within the marine insurance marketplace
- Experience with specialty yacht or inland marine products
- Experience leading underwriting teams in an MGA, carrier, program administrator, or specialty insurance environment
- Existing marine insurance carrier relationships
- Experience launching or expanding specialty insurance products
- Insurance designations: CPCU
- Insurance designations: AMIM
- Insurance designations: ARM
- Insurance designations: AU
- Insurance designations: CRM or equivalent industry credentials
