Head of China Tax

Job Summary

Lead and oversee all tax matters for Castrol's China operations, acting as the senior tax leader and principal relationship holder with fiscal authorities. Provide commercially focused tax advice to business stakeholders on strategic projects, restructurings, and supply chain changes while managing tax audits, enquiries, and disputes. Drive operational excellence by strengthening tax processes, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and leading the development of the country's tax strategy and governance framework. Direct a high-performing team of tax professionals to deliver risk management and advisory services that support sustainable business growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level with a relevant professional tax, accounting or legal qualification
  • Extensive tax planning, advisory, compliance and risk management experience within a global or multinational environment
  • Strong knowledge of Chinese tax legislation and practice, including Corporate Income Tax, Indirect Taxes, Employment Taxes and Transfer Pricing
  • Significant experience managing tax authorities, audits, enquiries, disputes and regulatory interactions
  • Ability to understand business operations and their tax implications, enabling business leaders to make informed decisions that support profitability, growth and operational efficiency
  • Demonstrated experience of providing practical, commercially focused tax advice to senior business stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation
  • Experience managing external advisers, outsourced service providers and multi-party delivery models
  • Significant experience managing complex tax compliance and governance activities within a multinational environment
  • Strong understanding of tax governance, internal controls and compliance frameworks
  • Experience establishing and operating tax compliance processes and control frameworks across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience managing tax accounting, cash tax and tax reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, manage complex projects and influence senior stakeholders across multiple functions and geographies
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and build productive relationships across Finance, Legal, HR, Commercial and Operational functions
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin, with the ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Pre-placement drug screening

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience within the consumer products, manufacturing or other complex multinational sectors
  • Experience supporting business separations, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions or large-scale organisational change programmes
  • Experience managing Transitional Service Agreements and transitioning tax activities into standalone operating models
  • Familiarity with OECD tax developments and international taxation matters affecting multinational groups
