Job Summary
Head Night Custodian supervises custodial staff, oversees preventive and day-to-day building maintenance, and ensures cleanliness, security, and safety at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. Responsibilities include directing maintenance work, operating and troubleshooting facility systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, lighting control, and boiler systems), using electronic work order systems to document tasks, setting up rooms for conferences and events, maintaining equipment, managing building security and alarms, and upholding district standards. The role requires strong initiative, the ability to lead in the absence of the supervisor, adherence to safety guidelines, fiscal responsibility for materials and energy use, and effective public relations with staff and visitors. The position is an evening shift (3:00 pm–11:30 pm), with pay in the $29.78–$30.90 per hour range plus district benefits, and requires residency within 30 miles of the assignment facility. Training and competency in district facility systems and Lenel security/door access systems are emphasized, with an expected completion within 30 days of employment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- First class boiler's license (current, posted and maintained) required, or willing and able to obtain within an agreed timeline
- Ability to supervise custodial staff and lead in the absence of the building supervisor
- Demonstrated ability to investigate, diagnose, troubleshoot and respond to building system service needs
- Ability to read and comprehend material data sheets, building plans, specifications and operation/maintenance manuals
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform responsibilities with minimal supervision
- Ability to follow schedules and adjust priorities, including emergencies
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers, visitors and building staff
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and document repairs and maintenance tasks
- Physical ability to perform strenuous labor, lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, and use hand/power tools
- Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment and tools and their proper use
- Willingness to attend district meetings and mandated trainings
- Demonstrated ability to use electronic work order systems and building control/security systems
- Successful completion of district facility training within 30 days
