Job Summary

Assure safe and enjoyable water experiences for guests by providing rescue and safety services across all facility areas while leading and directing lifeguard staff during shifts. Supervise team members to monitor and ensure the best possible service, utilizing authority to carry out assigned tasks and handle distressed individuals. Maintain physical agility to run, swim, and extract persons from the water, operating lifesaving equipment under outdoor weather conditions. Work variable hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility to cross-train in other departments and cover breaks or shifts as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior lifeguarding experience at least one season
  • Red Cross Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor certification
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification
  • Ability to pass swim and rescue test
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
  • Ability to monitor and supervise said team
  • Willingness to cross-train in other departments
  • Willingness to cover breaks and/or shifts
  • Availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Adequate physical agility to perform physical tasks required to operate the Pool
  • Ability to focus attention on pool area without distraction
  • Physical agility to perform all activities of the Lifeguard job
  • Ability to walk to all areas of the facility
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read instructions
  • Ability to pass all lifeguard training
  • Ability to receive appropriate certifications
  • Close vision

  • Ability to extract persons from the water
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross Lifeguard training
  • Ability to work under outdoor weather conditions
  • Ability to be routinely exposed to the sun
  • Ability to be exposed to extreme heat or cold
  • Ability to work on uneven and/or slippery surfaces
  • Willingness to accept Ellis, U.S. Coast Guard, or YMCA certification in lieu of Red Cross
