Job Summary
Implement and enforce school, state, and conference athletic policies while interpreting regulations consistently across the staff. Design training clinics, establish fundamental skills and techniques, and delegate duties to assistants, then analyze staff effectiveness at season's end. Maintain discipline, address grievances, and ensure student eligibility by monitoring grades and conduct. Coordinate practices and tournaments with maintenance staff, manage equipment inventory and storage, and provide proper safeguards for facilities and athletes. Initiate injury protocols, submit medical documentation within 24 hours, and promote the sport through media relations and community outreach. Work Monday through Friday with evening and weekend coverage as dictated by the season, reporting to the Athletic Director.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all the Athletic Policies approved by the Board of Education
- Comprehensive knowledge of the existing system, state, and conference regulations
- Thorough understanding of the proper administrative line of command
- Thorough knowledge of the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques associated with the athletic program
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal requirements regarding physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility for athletic participation
- Thorough knowledge of training rules and any other unique regulations about the various sports in which athletes are engaged
- Thorough knowledge of guidance and safeguards in place for the safety of athletes to address medical injuries and emergencies
- Thorough knowledge of the process for initiating policies and procedures applicable to the athletic program
- Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Physical Education or related area
- Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the middle or high school level
