Job Summary
Head Grower oversees planting, cultivation and harvesting of produce in a cannabis greenhouse, provides leadership to greenhouse personnel, tours greenhouses to monitor plant health, decides on actions for pests/disease, supervises pesticide use and disposal, keeps day-to-day records, coordinates labor with the Greenhouse Labor Supervisor and HR, reports to the Greenhouse Manager, conducts research/analysis of horticultural problems, develops production plans, ensures safety and policy compliance, motivates staff, resolves labor issues, and plans/cooperates on greenhouse production with cross-functional teams. Requires advanced horticultural knowledge, strong communication, leadership, and ability to implement new production plans while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of direct work experience in horticulture
- Solid understanding of horticultural techniques
- Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills
- Effectiveness in safety and productivity
- Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations
- Commitment to working in a team environment with established team-building abilities
- Strong communication, leadership, integration, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Ability to participate in continuous improvement processes
- Ability to follow safe procedures for use of fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Botany/Horticulture/Agriculture (or Diploma + Bachelor's)
- High School Diploma or GED
