Job Summary
Head Football Coach responsible for safety and development of student-athletes; collaborate with administration, faculty, and staff to advance academics and athletics; promote the sport within the school and community; manage coaching prerequisites, certifications, transportation, equipment, and communications; monitor athletes’ eligibility and conduct, prepare schedules and events, and support disciplinary and due-process procedures as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent required
- Previous successful coaching experience preferred
- Knowledgeable of athletic policies approved by the Johnston County Schools’ Board of Education
- Knowledgeable of existing system, state, and conference regulations
- Ability and willingness to organize and supervise athletic team members
- Willingness to obtain a CDL to transport students on an approved activity bus to contests and maintain certifications
- Knowledgeable of proper administrative line of command and referral process for requests or grievances
- Knowledgeable of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance
- Complete and submit proper paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries within 24 hours
- Assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection
- Collaborate with Athletic Director on scheduling, transportation, and events
- Coordinate with maintenance and school employees for athletic program facility times
- Operate within budgeting function and ensure equipment and resources are properly managed
- Supervise and direct student managers, assistants, trainers, and statisticians
- Communicate expectations to coaching staff and foster professional growth
- Evaluate coaching staff performance and implement improvements
- Promote the sport within the school and community
- Maintain medical and emergency information for athletes
