Job Summary
Lead the cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of school facilities, grounds, and equipment by supervising custodial staff, scheduling work, managing expenditures, and overseeing facility projects. Direct daily operations including cleaning windows, floors, and bathrooms, maintaining HVAC systems, and performing minor repairs like replacing light bulbs and conducting carpentry. Coordinate summer maintenance schedules, act as the first responder to safety and security issues, and conduct routine inspections of cleanliness, fire systems, and safety drills. Manage the custodial operating budget, order supplies, train staff on chemical safety and equipment use, and submit computer-generated work orders for building issues.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimal experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Computer experience
- North Carolina driver's license
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
- General knowledge of school heating system operation and maintenance
- Thorough knowledge of cleaning materials, supplies and equipment
- Thorough knowledge about building fixtures and equipment
- Ability to supervise and work effectively with other people
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to work with total school staff
- Ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing
- Ability to plan, train and supervise the work of subordinates
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and related hardware and software
- Ability to conduct safety inspections and drills
- Ability to process work orders
- Ability to understand MSDS's and other chemical documentation
- Ability to learn specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and the general public
