Job Summary
Head Competitive Cheer Coach at Roosevelt High School leads the varsity cheer program, oversees assistant coaches, determines athlete participation during practices and games, and ensures the program aligns with district policies and SDHSAA guidelines. Responsibilities include scheduling games and practices, coordinating travel and eligibility, preparing budgets and equipment needs, supervising facilities and dressing areas, maintaining program records and awards, supporting feeder programs from middle schools, and collaborating with the Coordinator of Athletics and building principal. The role requires travel between locations, supervision of staff, and active engagement with the school community to promote the athletic program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education preferred
- Fundamentals of Coaching or equivalent (must be completed one time)
- Sports First Aid or Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries or equivalent (must be renewed once every two years)
- Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know (must be renewed on an annual basis)
- High school/college participation preferred
- Teaching assignment in building preferred
- Previous experience supervising cheer team
