Job Summary
Recruit athletes for the wrestling program, promote the sport through media and community events, and present schedule and tournament information to news outlets. Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale while evaluating assistant staff effectiveness and establishing fundamental skills and techniques. Train and inform staff, encourage professional growth, and provide documentation for state and system requirements regarding physical examinations and parental consent. Present at all practices and games, initiate injury and emergency programs, and complete disabling athletic injury paperwork within 24 hours. Direct student managers and assistants, organize pre-season meetings, and assist with scheduling, transportation, and budgeting for the Athletic Director. Manage equipment inventory, secure facilities, and ensure locker room cleanliness and safety. Give constant attention to student athletes' grades and conduct, assist with college selection, and adhere to Gaston County Board of Education policies.
Required Qualifications
- Previous successful coaching experience in wrestling
- Certification as a teacher by a state education agency
- Employment as a classroom teacher by the Gaston County Board of Education
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles, use measuring devices, and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions
- Must also possess the visual acuity to prepare data and statistics, work with figures, and records processes, operate a computer, and do extensive research and reading
- Thorough knowledge of all the Athletic Policies approved by the Gaston County Schools' Board of Education
- Knowledge of existing system, state, and conference regulations
- Ability and willingness to organize and supervise the wrestling program
- Must have superior knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport
- Must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
- Understands the growth and development of players at the assigned school
- Must be able to pass a required health exam
- Must pass a criminal records check
- Must pass a drug test
- Subject to random drug testing
