Required Qualifications

• •Must hold or be willing to obtain valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification
• •Regular and predictable attendance at work
• •Must be able to lift, carry, load, unload, rig, derig, and move sailboats, sails, lines, personal flotation devices (PFDs), and other sailing equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds, with or without assistance
• •Must be able to enter and exit boats, docks, ramps, and other watercraft areas
• •Must possess sufficient near and distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, hearing, and communication skills
• •Must be able to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations
• •Must adhere to all School and boating safety protocols
• •Must be able to consistently problem-solve, make informed decisions, interpret data, organize effectively, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, and engage in thoughtful planning
• •Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• •Must be well organized
• •Must be able to meet deadlines
• •Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Athletic Department, coaching staff, maintenance staff, faculty/staff, student-athletes, parents, and other members of the Mid-Pacific athletic community
• •Must be a positive role model in our community
• •Must possess the highest level of sportsman-like behavior at all times
• •Must be able to supervise student-athletes in and around the water
• •Must be able to recognize potential safety hazards
• •Must be able to monitor changing water and weather conditions
• •Must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations
• •Must be able to work on docks, ramps, beaches, and boats
• •Must be able to work in outdoor environmental conditions including sun, heat, humidity, wind, rain, and water
• •Must be able to work in loud noise, cold and hot temperatures
• •Must be able to work in varying weather and environmental conditions
• •Must be able to comply with Mid-Pacific, ILH, IJF and HHSAA rules and regulations
• •Must be able to comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others
• •Must be able to take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others
• •Must be able to report any injury, hazard or illness immediately
• •Must be able to not place others at risk by any act or omission
• •Must be able to not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment
• •Must be able to act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors
• •Must be able to identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility
• •Must be able to ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained
• •Must be able to maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws
• •Must be able to report any injury, hazard or illness immediately to the Athletic Department
• •Must be able to Mandatorily report sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources
• •Must be able to identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility
• •Must be able to ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained
• •Must be able to maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws
• •Must be able to use equipment typical of a sailing program including sailboats, sails, masts, booms, rudders, centerboards, rigging, lines, personal flotation devices (PFDs), safety and rescue equipment, trailers, dollies, and other coaching and training aids
• •Must be able to utilize computers, tablets, email, Google Workspace applications, and other technology for communication, scheduling, recordkeeping, and program administration
• •Must be able to develop student-athletes through safe and effective drills, skills, strategies, and lesson planning
• •Must be able to motivate and support student-athletes using positive reinforcement
• •Must be able to provide off-season training opportunities to improve individual and team performance
• •Must be able to track daily attendance and communicate with student-athletes and parents regarding absences
• •Must be able to monitor athlete eligibility per Mid-Pacific, ILH, and HHSAA regulations
• •Must be able to maintain and secure all equipment
• •Must be able to assist with issuing and returning team uniforms and equipment
• •Must be able to monitor academic performance to support student success
• •Must be able to communicate team equipment and supply needs to the Athletic Department
• •Must be able to clearly articulate the vision and scope of the Sailing program
• •Must be able to conduct a parent meeting prior to the start of the season
• •Must be able to share practice schedules and updates with athletes in a timely and organized manner
• •Must be able to respond positively and promptly to parent or athlete concerns
• •Must be able to serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes
• •Must be able to demonstrate and promote good sportsmanship
• •Must be able to attend all required meetings and events scheduled by the Athletic Department
• •Must be able to be mindful of student-athletes social and emotional needs
• •Must be able to recruit, train, and oversee all coaches in the Sailing program, in collaboration with the Athletic Director
• •Must be able to supervise staff within the program
• •Must be able to evaluate and develop High School athletes
• •Must be able to develop regular practice schedules
• •Must be able to collaborate with the Athletic Department to maintain a competitive and well-rounded program
• •Must be able to develop student-athletes in the sport of Sailing at the High School level (Varsity)
• •Must be able to recruit and mentoring assistant and lower-level coaches as needed
