Head Coach - Football

Job Summary

Develop the entire football program by providing leadership to personnel and student athletes, adhering to LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations. Prepare teams for competition after the school day, scheduling games and managing relative activities while maintaining all required records, equipment inventory, and team statistics. Ensure student safety by verifying physical exams, insurance coverage, and transportation for road trips, while building sportsmanship and managing public relations. Evaluate assistant coaches, communicate with the media and administrators, and participate in professional development to acquire thirty-six Continuing Learning Units annually. Work weekends and holidays as needed, maintaining security of electronic and print records.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate and or current LHSAA requirements
  • Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
  • Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
  • Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
  • Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook
  • Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic football fundamentals
  • Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for football
  • Certified through USA footballs Heads UP program
  • Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific
  • Ability to accurately communicate with members of the media
  • Ability to represent the school and or school system at various functions
  • Ability to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor
  • Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system
  • The coach must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally
  • Must be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JPPSS policies
  • Must adhere to all LHSAA assigned district, Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) rules and regulations relative to the football program
  • Must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases
  • Must be able to move heavy athletic equipment
  • Must be able to demonstrate athletic techniques and physically transfer or position athletes as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to provide own transportation to games, work locations and meeting sites

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous playing experience in football preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level)
  • Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in football
  • Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of football injuries
