Head Coach - Cross Country

Job Summary
Develop the entire cross country program by providing leadership to personnel and student athletes, adhering to LHSAA and JPPSS rules. Prepare teams for competition after school hours and work weekends or holidays as needed. Maintain security of student records, inventory equipment, schedule games, and ensure athletes have current physicals and adequate insurance. Compile team statistics, report rosters and scores, and communicate with the athletic director and media. Evaluate assistant coaches and participate in professional development to acquire thirty-six Continuing Learning Units annually. Represent the school at various functions while ensuring safe transportation for all participants.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, CECP completion and/or current LHSAA requirements
- Possess a CDL class B or above with a P or S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
- Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
- Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
- Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook
- Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic track fundamentals
- Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for cross country
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific
- Must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JPPSS policies
- Must be able to accurately communicate with members of the media
- Must be able to represent the school and or school system at various functions
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor
- Must adhere to all LHSAA assigned district, Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) rules and regulations relative to the cross country program
- Must sometimes work weekends and holidays as determined by the preparedness of his/her team
- Must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases
- Must be able to move heavy athletic equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Previous playing experience in cross country preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level)
- Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in cross country
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of cross country injuries
