Head Coach - Baseball

Job Summary
Develop and implement the entire baseball/softball program while providing leadership to personnel and student athletes. Adhere to LHSAA, district, and JPPSS rules and regulations, assigning duties to assistant coaches and maintaining all required records, equipment inventories, and game schedules. Ensure student safety by verifying physical exams, insurance coverage, and transportation for road trips, while building sportsmanship and managing public relations. Compile data, report incidents or injuries promptly, and communicate with media, parents, and administrators. Work after school hours and occasionally on weekends or holidays as needed. Maintain security of student information and participate in professional development to earn 36 Continuing Learning Units annually.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- CECP completion
- current LHSAA requirements
- CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
- Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
- Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
- Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook
- Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic baseball/softball fundamentals
- Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for baseball/softball
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific
- Must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JPPSS policies
- Must be able to accurately communicate with members of the media
- Must be able to represent the school and or school system at various functions
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor
- Must be able to demonstrate athletic techniques and physically transfer or position athletes as required
- Must be able to move heavy athletic equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Previous playing experience in baseball/softball preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level)
- Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in baseball/softball
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of baseball/softball injuries
