Job Summary

Head Clinical AI Strategy - Translational Research leads the strategic roadmap and impact of Data Science & AI for early clinical development trials. The role acts as the integrator between scientific leaders and data-science teams, translating complex scientific and clinical needs into actionable AI use-cases and delivery plans. Responsibilities include identifying high-value AI use cases, enabling governance and decision-making, overseeing the BR Clinical Design Lab for scaled AI implementations, defining KPIs/ROI frameworks to quantify value at trial and program levels, and collaborating with Data & Digital, Data Science, and enterprise partners to ensure fit-for-purpose data availability. The role also involves evaluating AI startups/technology vendors, promoting AI-driven process adoption, and representing Novartis as a leader in Data Science and AI to clinical leadership. Essential requirements include an advanced degree (PhD/MD/MSc), 10+ years in pharma with DS projects, proven global solutions experience in healthcare, knowledge of AI/ML in biomedical contexts, and strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MSc) in relevant scientific fields
  • PhD or equivalent in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field desirable
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical settings
  • Experience integrating scientific, data-science, and operational perspectives in R&D
  • Experience in defining KPI and ROI frameworks
  • Proven experience developing and implementing digital or AI strategy in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML methodologies in biomedical contexts
  • Up-to-date knowledge of digital, AI, and data science trends applied to Pharma or Healthcare
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing, and communication skills
  • Strategic thinker with ability to translate strategies into concrete actions
  • Excellent English required (oral & written)
