Job Summary
HDD Operator (Driller) responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable-sized underground holes and pulling back conduit on outside plant projects. Duties include potholing, setting hand holes, conduit pulling, drilling along predetermined bore paths, installation of pulling gear, coordinating with locator/foreman, overseeing laborers, and performing post-job quality checks. Requires operating Horizontal Directional Drilling equipment, maintaining safety procedures, daily radio communication with the locator/lead, vehicle operation, and ensuring compliance with DOT/OSHA regulations. Must have 1+ years HDD experience, a valid CDL Class A, ability to travel and work extended hours, and readiness to pass drug and background checks. Required Qualifications
- Participation in federally compliant FMCSA drug and alcohol testing program (pre-employment and ongoing)
- 1+ years of Horizontal Directional Drilling experience
- Strong knowledge of underground utilities
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications) and OSHA regulations
- Ability to comply with the Operator’s Manual for equipment
- Ability to read and follow quality/safety policies and procedures
- Self-motivated with safety, quality and production mindset
- Maintains valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A)
- Knowledge of underground potholing preferred
- Ability to travel and work extended hours including overtime and weekends
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
- Physical ability to lift 50-80 lbs regularly and lifting/carrying heavy materials
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to pass DOT drug test and background check
