Job Summary
Operate Ditch Witch JT-series horizontal directional drilling rigs and walkover locating systems to install conduit, fiber, and utility crossings on oilfield, midstream, and telecom projects. Execute pilot bores, back-reams, and pullbacks while managing drilling fluids, monitoring downhole parameters, and maintaining accurate as-built records. Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and load transport between job sites. Submit 811 tickets, protect existing utilities, and manage traffic control per client requirements. Lead safety meetings and exercise stop-work authority in extreme conditions. Requires 3+ years HDD experience, 2+ years locating skills, valid driver's license, and ability to work 10–12 hour shifts with overnight travel.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years operating HDD equipment
- Ditch Witch preferred
- Vermeer or equivalent considered
- 2+ years walkover locating experience
- Proven ability to keep a bore on profile
- Ability to read and work from bore plans
- Ability to work from plan-and-profile drawings
- Ability to work from utility as-builts
- Working knowledge of drilling fluid theory
- Knowledge of soil conditions across Gulf Coast, Permian, and desert Southwest geology
- Valid driver's license
- Acceptable motor vehicle record
- Reliable transportation to the yard or reporting location
- Drug and alcohol testing is a condition of employment
- Must pass a pre-employment screen
- Must remain enrolled in Cascade's ongoing testing program
- Must include random testing
- Must include post-incident testing
- Must include reasonable-suspicion testing
- Must include client-mandated site testing
Desired Qualifications
- Class A CDL with air brake endorsement
- DOT Operator Qualification (OQ) covered tasks for pipeline work
- OSHA 10
- OSHA 30
- Safeland / Safety Council training
- First aid and CPR
- Competent person training
- Rock drilling experience
- Mixed-face experience
- TWIC card
- Bilingual English / Spanish
