Job Summary

Collect, process, and package all hazardous waste while performing legal classification, required packaging, and proper labeling of containers. Conduct qualitative testing on items including pH and flash point checks, then quality check all shipping containers to correct discrepancies immediately. Operate an articulating forklift, use drum dollies, cargo straps, and power tools, and supply manual labor such as shoveling as needed. Complete all documentation and tracking with high accuracy while adhering to ACA, EPA, NRC, IMDG, DOT, and state regulations. Work in a team unit in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with approximately 70% outdoor tasking, maintaining flexibility and a positive attitude. Ensure a safe workplace by prioritizing safety and complying with all Environmental Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Operations Division metrics.

Required Qualifications

  • College degree
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Passport
  • Able to lift 50 pounds consistently
  • Able to wear a respirator
  • Able to stand for up to 12 hours daily
  • Must be able to lift the safety regulation maximum
  • Must perform functions requiring repetitive motion
  • Must pass physical qualification assessment
  • Able to deploy to Antarctica for length of contract
  • US citizenship or permanent residency
  • Must successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment
  • Must complete online forms, written forms, fingerprint cards and provide additional details and information as requested by NSF Personnel Security
  • Strong computer software experience
  • Able to supply manual labor (shoveling) for several hours if needed
  • Ability to learn and follow all ACA, EPA, NRC, IMDG, DOT, State, rules and regulations regarding hazardous wastes being shipped
  • Ability to complete all documentation and tracking to a high degree of accuracy
  • Perform safe operation of an articulating forklift
  • Quality checks all shipping containers and correct discrepancies immediately
  • Able to work in a team unit composed of diverse personalities
  • Displays self-motivation in physically challenging and atypical work environment
  • Able to maintain flexibility and positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced work setting
  • Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace
  • Agrees with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities of the Waste department
  • Must be able to lift 50 - 70 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • 1 year of Hazardous Materials shipping/characterization or reporting experience
  • 2 years of Environmental remediation
  • 1 year of High School Chemistry
  • 1 quarter of college General Chemistry
  • College degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science
  • OSHA HazWOPER 40-Hour, current
  • Familiarity with power tools and machinery
  • Equipment operating experience
