Job Summary

Monitor poultry health to prevent and treat diseases while adjusting ventilation and heat per incubation guidelines. Supervise hatchery employees and lead the crew during the Hatchery Manager's absence, directing hourly staff without disciplinary oversight. Ensure compliance with Human Resources, Animal Welfare, Safety, and Biosecurity programs by maintaining buildings, equipment, and cleaning protocols. Complete data entry, oversee weekly and monthly test sampling, and manage supplies for bird services. Work up to six days a week in a fast-paced environment, troubleshooting equipment and adhering to all safety policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate level proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic
  • 5 years' experience in hatchery or as a hatchery Supervisor
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions
  • Ability to perform high level tasks under direct instruction
  • Ability to maintain and record data pertinent to hatchery operations without error
  • Ability to trouble-shoot hatchery equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both lower and higher ranked individuals
  • Ability to lead the hatchery in the event of the Hatchery Manager absence
  • Ability to complete repetitive work
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work with chemicals, such as detergents
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (6 hours)
  • Must be able to Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists
  • Must be able to Lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs
  • Must be able to Bend and stoop repetitively throughout out shift
  • Must be able to work in a dry and dusty environment
  • Must be able to work in a hot and cold climate
  • Must be able to work in a damp and/or wet environment
  • Must be able to work in a loud/noisy environment
  • Must be able to Routinely work up to 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to handle and interact with live poultry
  • Must be able to tolerate ongoing presence of hatchery related smells or odours
