Job Summary
Paraeducator needed to support Title I self-contained special education classrooms at Spotsylvania County Public Schools. Responsibilities include assisting students with daily work, evaluating and testing, supervising small groups in multiple subject areas, monitoring behavior and safety, and performing routine clerical and non-instructional duties (cafeteria, bus, hall, office). Must meet Title I “highly qualified” requirements via two years of college study or an associate degree or demonstrated knowledge through a state/local assessment. Training in MANDT for emotional disabilities is preferred. The role offers an 10-month (185-day) contract with potential additional compensation for credits toward advanced degrees, and comprehensive benefits (healthcare, retirement, PTO, FMLA, EAP, tuition reimbursement, life insurance).
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years working with children in instructional or related setting
- To be designated ‘highly qualified’ for Title I schools: two years of college study OR an Associate’s degree OR a state/local academic assessment demonstrating knowledge in instruction of reading, writing, mathematics (reading readiness, writing readiness, mathematics readiness)
- Experience with special education students (Autism, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, Learning Support, Behavior Support)
- Ability to assist in instruction, provide organizational support, small-group instruction, and supervision in various settings
- MANDT methodology training for special education teachers working with emotional disabilities (preferred)
- Ability to perform routine clerical duties and non-instructional duties (cafeteria, bus, hall, office)
