Job Summary
Assist teachers with instructional, clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms. Work schedule aligns with the school year, typically 7:15am–3:30pm. Priorities include supporting instructional activities, managing student behavior, and providing classroom and community-based supervision. Requires high school diploma or GED, strong office/computer/communication skills, ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents, flexibility to adapt to changing student needs, and willingness to participate in training. Preferred qualifications include additional college experience or credentials (e.g., CDA) and experience working with students with special needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have strong office, computer, and oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to relate well with students, staff and parents
- Must be flexible to meet the changing needs of students
- Must have strong tutorial skills
- Incumbents must possess knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, and basic instructional methods and techniques
- Must be willing to supervise students in community settings
- Must participate in training provided by the Special Education Department
- Prefer candidate to be highly-qualified (Two years of college experience from an accredited college OR a two-year degree OR completed CDA credentials OR other listed qualifications in the preferred section)
