Guidance Systems Engineer

Job Summary

Conduct analysis, design, implementation, and test activities for guidance systems within the Advanced Guidance Lab, supporting ongoing Internal Research & Development in inertial guidance, Position Navigation & Timing tools, and lab infrastructure. Operate basic laboratory environments and equipment while delivering innovative, integrated solutions to meet changing customer business needs. Demonstrate a scientific background in Guidance Navigation & Controls, utilizing MATLAB, embedded programming, and simulation to advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology. Perform work under minimal supervision, engage in Agile programs, and ensure services align with industry best practices. Join a research-oriented team developing practical solutions for national security with a flexible 9/80 schedule and on-site option in Pittsfield, MA.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Master's degree
  • 6 months of relevant experience
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to perform work assignments under minimal supervision
  • Ability to support frequent communications within and across Integrated Product Teams
  • Scientific background
  • Understanding of Guidance Navigation & Controls
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Experience with engineering systems
  • Ability to further advance GDMS technology
  • Passion for innovation
  • Sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems
  • Ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology
  • Knowledge and understanding of electronics and electrical systems
  • Operations of basic laboratory environments and equipment
  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy
  • Comply with all policies and procedures
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practice
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • AI experience
  • Circuit design and analysis
  • FPGA design
  • Closed loop control
  • Simulation and modelling experience
  • Experience with embedded programming (C, C++, Python, JavaScript) and microcontrollers
  • Basic knowledge of inertial sensors
  • Familiarity with Estimation theory, filtering, and data reduction
  • Agile Method experience
  • Familiarity with LabView

Desired Qualifications

  • Flexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule)
