Job Summary
Analyze air vehicle stability and control characteristics to ensure acceptable handling qualities. Apply control theory to design of control laws that achieve desired dynamics, including disturbance rejection and robustness. Develop and validate linear and nonlinear mathematical models of air vehicles and subsystems using Matlab/Simulink, wind tunnel data, and flight-test results; support rotorcraft configurations from a stability and handling-qualities perspective. Perform wind tunnel testing, pilot-in-the-loop simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and flight testing; collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (aerodynamics, avionics, structures, crew systems) to optimize vehicle-level performance. Occasional travel to off-site test locations (cold weather, high altitude, ships at sea) and on-site work at Ridley Park, PA with a 10% travel expectation; the role may include flexible scheduling to support test activities; U.S. security clearance is required post-start. The position requires U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for a final/initial U.S. Secret Clearance and does not sponsor visas.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
- Completion of rotorcraft-centric engineering courses or other engineering-level exposure to rotorcraft concepts.
