Job Summary
Provide expert controls advice and support during the entire flight controls life cycle, including design, development, test, and field deployment. Develop physics-based models of aerospace control system components and apply control loop design techniques from classical to current theory. Troubleshoot complex systems issues, recommend solutions to management, and implement recovery while compiling and analyzing ground and flight test data to improve component models. Work directly with technicians in the lab using flight hardware and test equipment, authoring project documentation and supporting design reviews. Present status, issues, and risks to management and brief customer senior engineers. Requires proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink, real-time software development, and experience with unmanned air vehicle systems. Bachelor's in aeronautical engineering with 6 to 10+ years in controls; Master's or PhD a plus.
Required Qualifications
- 5-10 years' experience to senior level talent (15-35 years of experience)
- Expert controls advice and support during the entire flight controls life cycle of design, development, test, and field deployment
- Knowledge of various engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and systems
- Ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions
- Experience troubleshooting complex systems issues
- Experience recommending solutions to the team and management
- Experience implementing recovery
- Experience with unmanned air vehicle systems and flight controls
- Ability to apply control loop design and performance analysis techniques from classical to current control theory
- Ability to develop physics-based models of aerospace control system components
- Capability of compiling and analyzing ground and flight test data
- Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink
- Real-time software development experience
- Flexibility to work in a team environment
- Ability to work directly with technicians
- Comfort working in the lab with flight hardware, ground support equipment, and test equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively and brief customer senior Engineers and Managers
- Experience working with program requirements and deriving component performance specifications
- Experience authoring and maintaining project documentation
- Experience supporting design reviews (i.e. test readiness, peer review, and CDR)
- Capability of presenting status, issues, and risk to management
- Bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering, or closely related field
- 6 to 10+ years of related experience in controls
Desired Qualifications
- Masters or PHD course work or degrees a plus
