Job Summary
Assist students in developing academic programs with emphasis on high school selection and post-secondary education, while collaborating with teachers to provide guidance lessons. Provide counseling regarding attendance, self-esteem, decision-making, and relationship skills, and assist with crisis intervention services. Review student progress on academic and behavioral fronts, and develop resources for career development, job readiness, and educational survival strategies including study skills and conflict resolution. Candidates require a Master's Degree in Counseling Education and a NYS Certificate. Appointment is made by the Board of Education following assessment of credentials and evaluation of service. Salary follows the Teacher's schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Counseling Education
- NYS Certificate in Counseling Education
- Knowledgeable in theoretical and evidence based methodologies that focus on Comprehensive School Counselor philosophies
- Thorough understanding of college admissions
- Data analysis skills
- Researching scholarship applications for students
- Current City of Buffalo residency
Desired Qualifications
- Preference will be given to applicants with current City of Buffalo residency
