Job Summary
Guest Engagement Educator delivers educational content to guests as they visit animal encounter opportunities at the Zoo. Works to foster an inclusive and welcoming educational environment through onsite encounters (e.g., Aquarium touch pools, goat habitat, giraffe feedings). Up to 29 hours/week with a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Responsibilities include initiating conversations, answering questions, and teaching about animals; applying inclusive teaching strategies and varied interpretation styles; adapting to autonomous guest encounters; communicating conservation messaging about the animal collection and sustainability projects. Supports program development and administrative tasks, and may perform other duties as assigned. Requires high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, CPR/First-Aid certification willingness, and successful background and drug screening. Note: exposure to nuts and shellfish is anticipated.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous interpretation or other informal education experience welcomed
- Previous zoo, aquarium, or museum related experience welcomed
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and audio-visual equipment
- Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Must be willing to become CPR/First-Aid certified
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and overnight/evening hours
- Must pass a background and drug screening
- Exposure to nuts and shellfish
