Job Summary
Guardrail Installer CDL Driver responsible for highway guardrail installation and related duties. Tasks include reading plans and schematics, laying out and installing guardrails, loading/unloading materials, operating a post pounder/truck, driving long distances to job sites, maintaining cargo records, fueling and inspecting vehicles, and logging hours. Requires a current Class A CDL, ability to drive a manual transmission, FMCSA Clearinghouse eligibility, medical certificate, and extensive physical work outdoors under varying conditions; involves safety-compliant operation of hand/power tools and adherence to traffic laws and company policies.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a current and Valid Class A CDL or commercial driver license
- Must possess the ability to drive manual transmission AND no "Manual Transmission Restriction" on license
- Must be able to pass requirements on a FMCSA Clearinghouse Query
- Must provide a medical certificate
- Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles
- Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds
- Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively
- Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances
- Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities
- Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans
- Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone
- Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
- Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees
- Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
