Job Summary
Certified Group Teacher – Child Care Center will plan and execute an approved agency curriculum to provide quality early childhood learning experiences for children, considering educational, social, developmental, and health needs. Responsibilities include developing developmentally appropriate weekly lesson plans, maintaining and organizing equipment and materials, identifying and addressing hazardous conditions, arranging classroom furniture to promote optimal learning, collaborating on center programming, leveraging community resources to enrich content, maintaining professional relationships with staff, participating in group conferences and parent meetings, ensuring confidentiality of information about children and families, coordinating with Educational/Site Director and Instructional Support Coaches for supervision and professional development, updating necessary records for center administration, and performing related duties as assigned. Hours are Full-time with shifts that may vary 8am-6pm; compensation is $56,000–$68,000; location is On-Site at Leggett Memorial, Union Johnson, and Union Carver; credentials include NYSED certification in ECE and eligibility for Study Plan if not currently certified; union-affiliated environment with a focus on East Harlem residents and community partnerships.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
- New York State Education Department Certification in Early Childhood Education (birth-grade 2; n-6; or pre-K-6) or NYSED certification for Children with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2)
- Teaching license or certificate valid for service in early childhood grades as set forth by NYSED
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Two years’ experience working with preschool-age children
- Knowledge of Head Start performance standards is a plus
- Background clearances: Department of Investigation and State Central Registry
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Good computer skills and writing ability
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in fast-paced environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
