Group Head of Internal Audit

Job Summary
Lead the development and delivery of a risk-based internal audit strategy across UKAEA, providing independent assurance to the CEO, Board and Audit & Risk Assurance Committee on the effectiveness of controls and risk management. Oversee internal audit for the Group and UK Industrial Fusion Solutions, drive governance and continuous improvement in audit processes, and mentor management to foster a proactive governance culture. Role includes embedding robust risk assurance processes, reporting to senior stakeholders, and shaping the strategy for stakeholder engagement and assurance mapping. Requires professional internal audit certification and senior leadership ability to influence at the board level, with strong knowledge of ISO standards and audit principles. Flexible working is supported; relocation allowance is available for eligible candidates, and the role may be based at Culham or Abingdon sites in Oxfordshire, UK, with hybrid working arrangements.
Required Qualifications
- Professional qualification ideally CIA/ACCA/CMIIA or equivalent Internal Audit certification
- Project Management and Risk Management qualification/experience desirable
- Ability to challenge and influence at senior management and board level
- Advanced knowledge of audit principles, practices and procedures
- Experience implementing assurance quality improvement programmes
- Experience with management systems certified to ISO standards
