Job Summary
The Group Exercise Specialist is responsible for teaching group classes to members, providing highly engaging Group Fitness instruction to individuals of all fitness levels. The role includes planning and leading exercise/activity sessions, ensuring safe use of all equipment, monitoring class setups, maintaining communication with staff and members, and responding to emergencies. Candidates must possess relevant teaching experience, specialized certifications, and CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. The position requires effective communication and the ability to relate to a diverse community.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of experience teaching yoga or specialty classes
- Specialized certification(s) from a nationally recognized fitness training organization
- Current certification(s) from a relevant nationally recognized fitness training organization, such as ACSM, NASM, ACE and/or YMCA equivalent
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association
- Ability to teach and design programs using props, weights, variable resistance, and other class-related equipment
- Completion of YMCA safety certifications must be accomplished within 60 days of hire
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse people from all social and economic segments of the community
- At least 18 years of age
