Job Summary
Lead energizing, safe, and educational group exercise classes tailored to participants' skill and fitness levels while modeling positive character values. Plan, organize, and conduct sessions on time, gathering equipment beforehand and returning items to maintain a clean area. Build authentic relationships with members, encourage adoption of Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards, and keep accurate attendance records. Visually inspect work areas for safety risks, report issues in writing, and arrange qualified substitutes when needed. Complete incident reports as necessary, attend required staff meetings and training, and communicate via digital technology. Maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications alongside nationally recognized group fitness credentials.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age requirement – 18 years of age
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, and nationally recognized certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification
- Certification in specific area of expertise
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles certification within 60 days of employment
- Complete YMCA of the USA New Employee Orientation e-learning course
- Ability to conduct classes and activities
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, stepping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, and lifting
- The position, by definition, is physically demanding and requires the person to be physically fit
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching group exercise classes preferred
