Job Summary
Conduct choreographed group exercise classes while ensuring all equipment is accessible and the environment remains safe and effective. Teach members on exercise physiology, injury prevention, and nutrition while demonstrating sensitivity to all fitness levels. Lead in emergency situations, report incidents per the Emergency Communication Action Plan, and maintain proper attire. Prepare with class routing, attend scheduled staff meetings, and complete required trainings including CPR/First Aid/AED and the YMCA Healthy Lifestyles program within six months. Maintain certification through continuing education and uphold a values-based culture of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to drive membership growth and retention.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Must have a nationally YMCA recognized Group Exercise (GE) certification
- Must obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyles (HLP) within first 6 months of employment
- Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2
- Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment upon hire and annually thereafter
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check
- Must be able to meet the physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
Desired Qualifications
- 2-6 years' experience instructing
- 6 or more years' experience instructing
- 6 months' instructing experience and at least 1 year experience teaching in a specialty field
