Job Summary
The Group Exercise Instructor leads energizing and safe group classes that align with healthy living program goals. Responsibilities include creating a welcoming environment, adjusting approaches to support participants' needs, maintaining knowledge of wellness trends, and communicating YMCA policies. National certification in group fitness instruction and a current certification in a specialty area are required, along with CPR/AED certifications and compliance with YMCA standards. The role requires at least one year of experience in teaching group exercise classes.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required
- National certification in group fitness instruction required
- Current certification in specialty/area of expertise required
- Successfully pass YMCA audition to demonstrate exceptional knowledge and competency as an instructor
- Obtain and remain compliant with any and all standards assigned by YMCA of the USA
- CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and Child Abuses Prevention, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30 days of hire
Desired Qualifications
- Related degree or relevant experience preferred
- Ability to teach a variety of class formats preferred
- Flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends is a plus
