Job Summary
Prepares rooms prior to class, selects choreography and music per YMCA guidelines, and maintains cleanliness of audio equipment and class supplies. Creates a nurturing, safe environment by reporting suspicious activity, managing equipment storage, and ensuring adherence to emergency procedures. Engages positively with members, models SMART principles, and attends staff meetings and trainings as designated. Covers assigned classes independently when unable to attend. Requires 5:30am and 5:30pm shifts for cycling and HIIT instruction at the John Geigle North Pinellas Branch.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must be able to teach at least one format of safe, effective and fun group exercise classes that meet all necessary components and safe guidelines in accordance with YMCA of the USA accepted practices of exercise physiology
- Must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE upon hire
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire
- Foundation of Listen First, Orientation to Healthy Living, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y or Group Exercise at the Y trainings required within 90 days of hire
- Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants in proper execution of exercise safety
- Must have current knowledge of exercise class structure
- Must have demonstration of cueing technique
- Must have demonstration of creative choreography and exercise variety
- Must have a positive attitude and ability to work independently
- Must have the ability to conduct, demonstration and safely lead classes at the intensity level formatted for participants with effective communication and human relations skills to handle situations with people of all socioeconomic levels
- Physical stamina and agility for extended periods of time is required
- Must wear Appropriate dress code approved uniform while on duty
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
