Job Summary
Teach energizing, safe, and educational group exercise classes at the YMCA, leading sessions as directed by the supervisor to support the mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Build authentic relationships with members, help participants meet health and well-being goals through active listening, and create an inclusive, welcoming environment that accommodates varied abilities, health, and cultural needs. Maintain class attendance records, support member retention and growth, participate in YMCA fundraising activities and events as designated, and complete required staff training and certifications (CPR/AED, First Aid, Foundations of Group Exercise) within specified deadlines. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, communicate effectively with diverse groups, and uphold YMCA policies. Requires minimum age 18 and availability to complete required certifications within 30 days of hire; no explicit degree requirements. Emphasizes delivering high-quality instruction, fostering community, and contributing to a positive member experience.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 18
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
- Foundations of Group Exercise within 30 days of hire
- Complete Foundations of Group Exercise within 30 days of hire
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
- Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and sports in general
