Job Summary
Groundwater Modeler to develop, calibrate, and apply MODFLOW-based groundwater models for SGMA compliance, basin characterization, and regulatory reporting across California. Responsibilities include building and calibrating groundwater flow/transport models (MODFLOW-6/OWHM/USG, IWFM, C2VSim), performing parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis, creating input datasets (hydrostratigraphy, recharge, pumping, water quality) using Python/R and GIS, running scenario analyses to evaluate management strategies and pumping impacts, producing clear technical reports and presentations, and supporting stakeholder engagement. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, hands-on MODFLOW modeling experience, 4 years of hydrogeology/water resources engineering experience, Python or R proficiency, strong technical writing, and willingness to travel. Plus desirable qualifications include registration (PG/CHG/PE), familiarity with California water data systems, and valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrologic Sciences, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or closely related field
- Hands-on experience with MODFLOW-based numerical groundwater modeling (MODFLOW-6, MODFLOW-OWHM, MODFLOW-USG, MODFLOW-NWT) or equivalent
- 4 years of professional experience in hydrogeology or water resources engineering
- Proficiency in Python or R for scripting, data processing, and model pre/post-processing
- Strong technical writing skills with ability to document model construction, calibration, and results clearly for technical and regulatory audiences
- Willingness to travel as needed
