Job Summary
Maintain the appearance of University grounds and paved areas using hand and powered equipment. Mow turf, trim walks and curbs, prune shrubs and trees, and weed and mulch beds. Water landscapes via manual methods or automated systems, fertilize turf, and assist with pest control. Perform trash removal, pavement repairs, fencing fixes, ditch digging, and grading. Operate and maintain all grounds equipment, lay sod, and plant shrubs, trees, and flowers. Execute duties safely while managing relationships with the public and employees. Requires a high school diploma, one year of experience, valid driver's license, and ability to lift 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- One year work experience
- Experience on grounds keeping
- Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must maintain a valid driver's license
- Must maintain motor vehicle liability insurance
- Must maintain personal injury insurance
- Must complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English
- Must have ability to read written instructions, warning labels, SDS Sheets in English
- Must possess Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- Must possess legible handwriting
- Must possess eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20
- Must have normal hearing ability
- Must successfully pass a PIPIC test for color blindness
- Must observe safety precautions when working in the presence of extreme noise, mechanical, electrical, and other hazardous situations
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to display good judgment when providing customer service
- Able to successfully handle frustrating conditions such as limits on time, limited access to equipment, and dealing with uncomfortable customers
- Able to carry 50 pounds up and down stairs
- Able to perform frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/ stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Able to perform frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching
- Able to perform frequent driving
- Able to work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces
- Able to work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces
- Able to work on extreme hot and cold temperatures
- Able to work on insects, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes
- Able to work on noise, vibration, and electrical hazards
- Able to workaround gas lines
- Able to work around machinery with moving parts
- Able to work in tight or enclosed spaces
- Able to work alone
- Able to work irregular hours
