Grounds Supervisor

Job Summary

Conduct daily grounds maintenance, including lawn grooming, flower bed edge detailing, and interior plant program upkeep in greenhouses. Supervise a crew of ten or more staff by prioritizing work assignments, conducting safety audits, and managing payroll and time tracking. Coordinate special projects, equipment maintenance, and bid acquisitions while ensuring compliance with pesticide and herbicide application regulations. Assist in landscape design, plant selection, and seasonal planting across golf courses and hotel grounds. Maintain warehouse stock of safety gear and cleaning supplies, respond to guest inquiries regarding grounds, and support snow removal efforts during winter months.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in horticulture and landscaping maintenance
  • 3 years of experience in turf grass management or maintenance program
  • 2 seasons / years of supervisory / leadership experience in directing and managing a crew of 10 or more staff members in the fields of landscaping and turf grass maintenance
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Bachelor's degree in horticulture or acceptable certification in landscape and or turf grass management with 3 years of experience and equivalent knowledge base training related to landscape and lawn maintenance
  • Must have a WV Commercial Applicator License in the required fields related to managing the storage, handling and application of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides
  • Must have a current WV drivers license
  • Must have a WV Commercial Applicators License or obtain one within 45 day of employment in order to oversee all application related to landscape, lawn and pest management including the necessary scheduling and training of the registered technicians in order for staff to maintain required licensing
  • Ability to effectively communicate daily assignments to staff
  • Ability to listen and respond appropriately to employee questions and requests
  • Ability to effectively communicate in-person, via phone, pager, 2-way radio, e-mail and written business documents
  • Ability to communicate with resort guest related to concerns and or questions about plants, trees, flowers etc
  • Knowledge of proper planting procedures for trees, shrubs and flowers
  • Knowledge of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides including use and application
  • Knowledge of the required maintenance of trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns
  • Understand proper Personal Protective Equipment for different job classifications
  • Understand use, procedures and maintenance of equipment and machinery

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be available for weekend shifts

  • Must be available for on call situations

Desired Qualifications
