Grounds Superintendent

Job Summary
Oversee the care, maintenance, safety, and security of the cemetery property, ensuring staff and visitors remain safe while maintaining overall upkeep and appearance. Train grounds crew on proper equipment use and OSHA/EPA compliance, enforce location dress codes, and document performance issues for management review. Manage inventory logs for equipment, supplies, and safety gear while supervising installation of headstones, memorials, and vaults. Direct daily groundskeeping tasks including chemical application, mulching, and pruning, and supervise maintenance employees operating machinery such as backhoes and lawn equipment. Perform up to 10 percent local or overnight travel as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid state issued driver's license in good standing and acceptable driving record
- Able to read, write and speak English fluently
- Ability to supervise maintenance employees
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task with interruptions
- Excellent organization skills
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery including backhoe and other lawn equipment
- This position has direct supervisory responsibilities
- Employees in this role are regularly required to climb, sit, stand, bend, kneel, and frequently lift to 75 pounds and may be required to lift to 100 pounds
- This position may also require reaching, pushing, and pulling
- This position may also be exposed to chemicals and/ or blood borne pathogens
- This position may require up to 10 percent out of area and overnight travel
- Travel is primarily local occurring during the business day only
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience preferred
- Minimum of 5 years cemetery grounds experience is strongly preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
