Job Summary
Maintain City parks, grounds, green spaces, athletic complexes, and common areas by raking, pruning, mulching, clearing, planting, mowing, weeding, edging, and painting. Operate zero turn mowers, walk behind edgers, string trimmers, blowers, pressure washers, pruning hedgers, chainsaws, pole saws, and loppers. Remove debris, trash, and landscaping waste from city properties and roadways while performing custodial duties in parks, buildings, and restrooms. Strip and paint ball fields and recreation centers; vacuum and disinfect artificial turf. Construct, deconstruct, and set up fencing, barricades, chairs, and stages for events. Perform minor equipment repairs, vehicle operations, and irrigation repairs. Work outdoors in inclement weather, weekends, and nighttime hours as needed.
Required Qualifications
- one (1) year of work-related experience
- Ability to understand and guard against job site hazards by observing proper safety precautions
- Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
- Must be able to communicate and present oneself professionally
- Ability to perform basic mathematical equations for the application of fertilizers and use of chemical cleaners
- Ability to take and follow oral instructions
- Ability to read and understand instructions and product directions
- Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to work during weekends and nighttime events and hours of operation
- Skilled in operating landscaping equipment and handheld and/or power tools
- Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license
- Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks
- This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required
